Where should I find the golf Local Rules for my round?

Find current golf Local Rules on course and competition documents, confirm which version applies and distinguish them from operating policies.

Last updated

Look for your round’s current golf Local Rules on the scorecard, an official handout or notice, the course website or competition information. Ask the shop or Committee which document applies to your date and event. A policy from another course or an old scorecard is not confirmation of the instructions for this round.

This is an editorial preparation checklist. It does not interpret an adopted Local Rule or establish that a model has been adopted.

The R&A Committee Procedures overview describes communicating Local Rules through player documents and digital methods. If a short version is printed, ask where the full wording can be read.

Keep the kinds of instruction separate

The official Rules, a course/event’s adopted Local Rules, an operating policy and practical etiquette guidance are not interchangeable labels. Record the wording and ask which kind of instruction you have been given. For example, a booking cancellation notice answers a different question from a rule about a marked area of the course.

Do not infer a new relief option from a casual comment or a social-media example. This page only helps locate and identify the current document; substantive rule interpretation requires the full circumstances and appropriate review.

Bring uncertainties to the organiser

Use the rules-question worksheet to include the ball’s location, sequence and format alongside the notice. Rule 20 deals with resolving rules issues, but this page does not select its procedures or set a penalty.

For the base wording, open the official resource guide. For arrival, clothing and rental arrangements, use the first-tee-time booking questions.
